Blend Requests now Available Online
The CCIA has been working towards making as many services as possible available online via our web site. Online tag requests were first offered in October 2016. And now, beginning May 1st, seed conditioners may request blends online as well.
OECD certificates should also be requested online as part of the tag request procedure and the certificate will be accessible in the seed conditioner’s account for viewing and printing at any time.

California rice Commission Recommends Planting Certified Seed
CDFA has adopted emergency regulations recommended by the Rice Certification Committee in order to help control the spread of weedy red rice. The regulations became effective March 13, 2017.
2017 Equipment - Used equipment must be inspected by the County Agricultural Commissioner and found free of red rice seed.
2017-18 Seed - Seed – common, grade or farm saved seed may be used but may not be sold.
Private seed programs can be approved by the Rice Certification Committee.
2019 Seed & Verification
- Only a class of AOSCA certified seed or third-party quality assurance may be planted in the state.
- Handers will require verification of planting certified or third party QA seed August 1, 2019.
The CRC acted March 8 to adopt all of these requirements as standard industry practices beginning this year. We understand the California Warehouse Association is considering similar action.
In addition, the Rice Experiment Station has notified all growers that their varieties may only be planted as a class of certified seed. As such, growers are strongly encouraged to only plant a class of certified seed for all available varieties this year and not plant farm saved seed.

Scholarship Awarded
The CCIA was happy to present a $2,000 scholarship to Paul Cardinalli, who just completed his senior year at California Polytechnic State University in SLO in December 2016. He majored in Agricultural Science with a minor in Plant Protection Science. Last summer Paul completed an internship in the Salinas Valley working with Helena Chemical Company and he is interested in acquiring a position as a PCA for a crop producer.
Larry Frame Joins the UCD Foundation Seed Program
In November 2016, Larry came to UC Davis to take on the multifaceted role of Warehouse and Field Production Manager. For the past several months, Larry has been under the wise tutelage of outgoing manager Clyde Clark who plans to retire at the end of June. In his new role, Larry will oversee all aspects of the foundation seed business including planning, production, conditioning, and warehousing.
Larry is the proud father of two happy children - a daughter, Morgan (7) and a son, Jackson (5). Being a busy husband and father, Larry’s spare time is spent engaged in numerous activities with his wife and young children. He also enjoys home improvement projects, camping and being outdoors.
